JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Magnet Engineer, you will perform electromagnetic or mechanical design studies of advanced superconducting coils and magnet related technologies or products. Calculations to be performed include “multi-physics” calculations, which integrate electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical stress analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proficient in the use of magnet design/analysis software including AML’s proprietary CoilCAD®, Comsol®, Maxwell® and Mathcad®.
  • Determine magnet related technologies by studying customer requirements, conferring with management and engineering staff.
  • Develop conceptual and detailed design solutions for both customer and internal magnet product requirements.
  • Design and operate complex cryogenic and superconducting experiments.
  • Be responsible for experimentation, technical designs, manufacturing and testing of cryogenic and superconducting components and prototypes, including supporting a variety of projects and driving technology development.
  • Deliver effective presentations, reports, and publications to internal project teams and customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate or Masters in Physics, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with at least 7 years experience in superconducting magnet design including mechanical, thermal design, or experimental setup of cryogenic structures.
  • Strong background in the design and experimental testing analysis of superconducting devices in particular superconducting magnets and/or cryogenic components.
  • Proven track record for successfully developing and managing research projects.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in manufacturing or design for manufacturing of superconducting and cryogenic devices or experiments.
  • Experience in magnet analysis tools and optimization methods.
  • Knowledge of design for quality and reliability.
