Motors & Generators (Resistive and Superconducting)

AML’s Double-Helix™ (DH) technology, implemented with superconducting cable or wire, provides higher magnetic flux density resulting in stronger magnetic fields and torque. DH coils are packaged in a highly precise and inherently stable manner which provides very high quality, force management and protection against short circuits in windings. For resistive applications, Direct Double-Helix™ provides extremely high power capabilities in a compact package.

Critical design considerations such as thermal management and vibration stability along with lower mass, size and cost are directly addressed by AML for electrical machinery applications such as motors, generators and synchronous condensers.

Our technologies are an ideal fit for wind turbine generators. Increases in power output of these systems is becoming increasingly difficult due to the physical size of components and associated cost and logistics limitations.

Replacing conventional generator saddle/racetrack windings with DH technology will significantly reduce size due to higher power density and improved electrical efficiency. AML is active in the area of next-generation, superconducting machinery design.
