Revolutionary Direct Double-Helix™ Technology
February 27, 2008 – The Advanced Magnet Lab (AML), Melbourne, Florida announces their latest breakthrough in magnet technology called Direct Double-Helix™. This technology enables the design and manufacturing of magnet coils “directly” without conventional conductor and winding processes. Additionally, coil configurations can be optimized vary conductor characteristics such as significantly reducing coil resistance/heat load along the 3D coil path – while still achieving perfect fields of most any multipole order.
The breakthrough is further enhanced due to the fact it provides many of the unique capabilities of AML’s Doulbe-Helix™ which is the most advanced magnet technology available for normal and superconducting electromagnets.
Benefits and Features include:
- Enabling Configurations & Capabilities – Bent, Twisted or Straight Magnet; Varying Field Strength & Aperture Along the Axis; Any Multipole Order without Systematic Errors; Scalable in Size & Field Strength: Combined Function Configurations
- Highest Quality – “Perfect Fields” with Zero Systematic Errors; Conductor and Layer Stabilization to Minimize Random Errors; Highest Field Quality & Uniform Field over a Large Volume
- Highest Reliability – Simplified Coil Ends with High Field Quality; Reduced Risk of Electrical Shorts; Unmatched Mechanical Coil Robustness; Splice Free
- Low Cost Development & Manufacturing – No Cost Penalty for Varying Length; Coil Ends without Complex Inserts; Mitigate or Eliminate Shim Coils; Combined Function Configurations. AML’s technology incorporates advanced magnet design software CoilCAD® and automated manufacturing. This technology provides manufacturing without tooling!
Since 1995, the Advanced Magnet Lab has been providing revolutionary technology for the design and manufacture of advanced normal & superconducting magnets. Technology is the most advanced coil and magnet technology available; proven and differentiated with unmatched capability, performance, reliability, lead-time and cost competitiveness. Markets include Medical, Energy, Research, Space and Defense.
